Completion of Oakfield, Swindon – A Landmark Community Development

Skeletal Consulting Engineers are delighted to celebrate the completion of Oakfield in Swindon, a not-for-profit housing development delivered by Nationwide Building Society. Built in the town where the Society was first founded, Oakfield represents a landmark community project — creating high-quality, sustainable homes without profit, and reinvesting entirely into the local community.

The development has delivered 239 new mixed-tenure homes designed to high environmental standards, a mix of between two and five bedroom houses and one- and two bedroom apartments, alongside high-quality landscaped green spaces. The original design was developed by GCP Architects and delivered on site by the developer Lovell. The scheme embodies Nationwide’s commitment to building stronger communities and re-investing directly into Swindon.

Skeletal Consulting Engineers was appointed by Nationwide as civil and structural engineers for the Stage 5 works. Our role focused on reviewing the existing design, providing additional design services where required, and supporting the team through the construction stage.

Now complete, Oakfield has become a thriving new neighbourhood with residents already moving in. It’s rewarding to see the finished development take shape and to know that our input has helped Nationwide realise its vision for a distinctive, sustainable community in Swindon.
