Completion of Whites House & Bramley Cottage, Bristol

Skeletal Consulting Engineers are pleased to see the completion and opening of Whites House and Bramley Cottage for Freeways Trust, located off Muller Road in Bristol.

The development provides purpose-built, specialist accommodation designed to support independent living for individuals with learning disabilities and autism, replacing outdated facilities previously on the site. Tucked away just off Muller Road, the scheme delivers much-needed, high-quality accommodation within an established residential area, allowing residents to remain connected to their local community.

The project comprises two distinct buildings. Whites House provides eight self-contained flats alongside shared spaces and staff facilities to support 24-hour care, while Bramley Cottage offers a smaller, more bespoke arrangement with two flats and integrated staff accommodation. Both buildings have been developed in close collaboration with occupational therapists to ensure they meet the needs of residents with more complex requirements.

Skeletal Consulting Engineers provided civil and structural engineering design for the scheme, working closely with Angus Meek Architects, Anderson Parslow Limited, and Markey Construction throughout the project.

Our role included the design and coordination of structural solutions and site infrastructure to support the new accommodation, ensuring the buildings respond to both the site constraints and the operational needs of the end users. Careful integration of drainage, levels and external works has been key to delivering a scheme that functions effectively as a long-term residential environment.

Having first visited the site in summer 2022, it’s great to see the transformation now complete and the buildings ready for occupation.
