Ongoing Construction Works to Grade II Listed Home in Pucklechurch
Skeletal Consulting Engineers have been providing civil and structural design services for the sensitive extension of a historic Grade II listed Georgian property on the outskirts of Bristol.
The project, designed by jhconsulting architects, replaces a former garage with a contemporary single-storey “glass box” rear extension, creating a generous open-plan family space together with a new utility and wet room — reconnecting the property with its garden. Achieving this has meant carefully integrating our structural design into the existing historic building fabric.
Within the existing building we have also designed replacement floor joists to address areas of decay, new large steel lintel beams along with a series of openings to enable reconfiguration within the existing house. Drainage has also been rerouted and upgraded, including provision for new connections and a soakaway.
With the new structural frame and roof now in place on site, it’s great to see the project moving forward. This scheme is a strong example of how thoughtful engineering and architecture can work together to enhance modern living while preserving the heritage of a listed home.
