Business Update: Inspiring the Next Generation

This week, we had the pleasure of hosting two aspiring structural engineers at our new Queen Square office, giving them a real-world insight into life as a structural engineer.

As part of the day, we set them a design challenge based on one of our real-world Skeletal projects, putting their problem-solving skills to the test. The challenge covered:

• Choosing appropriate building materials – weighing up the pros and cons
• Conducting a desk study – reviewing historical maps, utilities, and ground conditions
• Interpreting borehole records and understanding their impact on design
• Understanding how a building is framed
• Sketching a structural scheme and approximating structural sizes

The students also had the opportunity to chat with our team, ask questions, and gain valuable career insights.
