Project Scope

Skeletal Consulting Engineers have been appointed on multiple projects at Weston General Hospital since 2020. Appointments have been directly for the NHS Trust, through an architectural framework with Stretto Architects or via the main contractors under a design and build contract.

Quantock Unit

This project involved the remodelling of an existing outpatients ward into a new inpatients ward requiring alterations to loadbearing masonry partitions and new drainage. The project also provided a new link corridor to the ward across an existing courtyard with poor ground conditions requiring a carefully considered foundation design solution to support the offsite manufactured lightweight superstructure.

Site Wide Surface Water Drainage

Skeletal undertook a comprehensive review of the below ground surface water drainage on the hospital site. This included a CCTV of the whole system and a detailed survey of the surrounding rhynes that take the surface water on site and discharges it into the main river Uphill Great Rhyne. This work led to a significant amount of maintenance to the below ground system (jetting of pipes, clearance of blockages and repair works) and clearing of the local rhyne network on site to allow the drainage to flow freely.

Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC)

We have been appointed to provide civil and structural engineering design services for the refurbishment and remodelling of an existing area of the hospital to provide much needed same day emergency care. Works have included the removal of structural columns and alteration to structural stability systems as well as M&E related works.

From works to the existing cladding on the hospital façade to carrying out structural checks for new robotic surgeons, CT scanners, patient hoists, and new water tanks and air handling units for the whole of the hospital, we are deeply proud of our ongoing work for the Trust at this hospital
