Sheffield Caribbean Sports Club – New Clubhouse & Changing Facilities
We’re pleased to be providing structural engineering design for a new clubhouse and changing pavilion at Sheffield Caribbean Sports Club, a long-established community sports hub based on The Common in Ecclesfield.
Founded in 1965, the club has grown from its early roots into a thriving, multicultural organisation supporting cricket, football, hockey and netball, alongside wider health and community initiatives. It plays an important role locally, not just as a sports venue but as a place that brings people together.
The current facilities are well used but no longer keep pace with the number of teams and activities taking place each week. Working with gcp Chartered Architects, the proposals aim to deliver a modern, accessible building that better supports players, volunteers and the wider community throughout the year.
The new clubhouse will provide updated changing facilities for men’s, women’s and junior teams, dedicated spaces for match officials and first aid, along with a flexible social space that can be used for events and community gatherings. The design has evolved through discussions with the club and stakeholders to ensure it reflects how the site is used in practice.
From a structural perspective, we’ve designed a steel-framed building arranged around a central space with two outer wings. The varied roof forms help give the building identity while also creating open views across the pitches from the main social areas. The structural layout has been developed to provide clear, practical internal spaces with straightforward load paths, supported on pad foundations with a ground-bearing slab suited to the site conditions. As always, close coordination with the architect and services engineer has been key.
This is a project with real community value, and we’re proud to be supporting the club as it moves toward the next stage of delivery.
