Six Years of Skeletal Consulting Engineers!

October marks six years since Skeletal Consulting Engineers was founded.

Looking back over the last 12 months, it’s hard not to be proud of how far we’ve come. From welcoming new team members and growing our civil engineering capability to securing appointments on projects across the UK and seeing long-running schemes progress on site, it has been another significant year for the business.

One of the highlights of the year has been the continued growth of the team. We’ve welcomed Clare, Ben and Dan to Skeletal, strengthening our structural engineering, civil engineering and business operations capabilities. We’ve also continued to support aspiring engineers through placements, work experience opportunities and mentoring, helping develop the next generation of the profession.
The expansion of our civil engineering team has been a particularly important milestone. Bringing structural and civil engineering services together under one roof has allowed us to provide a more joined-up service to our clients and become involved in projects from the earliest stages of development.

We’ve been fortunate to work on a diverse range of projects throughout the year. Highlights include the Children’s and Young People’s Theatres project and Cardiac Intensive Care Unit works at Bristol Royal Hospital, major refurbishments at Guildford Spectrum Leisure Centre and the University of Reading, industrial projects for apetito and CCL, veterinary healthcare facilities for Animal Trust, residential developments such as Rownham House, and community-focused schemes including Bristol Support Housing and Kingsley Hall.
The breadth of these projects reflects the diversity of work we now undertake, from healthcare and education through to industrial developments, leisure facilities, residential schemes and community-focused projects. The variety keeps our work interesting and continually challenges us to develop practical engineering solutions for a wide range of clients and building types.

Perhaps most rewarding has been seeing so many projects move forward on site. Watching schemes develop from the first feasibility discussions and opening-up works through to construction and completion is one of the most satisfying parts of the job, and a reminder of what strong collaboration between clients, architects, contractors and consultants can achieve.
That collaboration was recognised this year through several award successes and nominations. Keynsham Riverside was named PPF Project of the Year (West), while The Armstrong and Seat Unique Stadium were shortlisted at the Insider South West Property Awards. Whilst awards are never the objective, it’s always pleasing to see projects recognised for the positive impact they have on the communities they serve.

Social value remains important to us beyond project delivery. Earlier this year the team spent time volunteering at Ardagh Community Trust, supporting improvements to a local community facility. Whether through volunteering, mentoring or the projects we help deliver, we’re committed to making a positive contribution to the places and communities around us.

While a lot has changed over the last six years, the fundamentals remain the same. We’re still focused on providing practical and high quality engineering advice, building strong relationships and helping clients solve complex problems in a straightforward way.
What started as a small structural engineering consultancy has grown into a practice providing all aspects of civil and structural engineering, delivering projects across the UK, while retaining the collaborative, friendly and approachable culture that has always defined the business.
To our clients, collaborators, contractors, architects, fellow consultants and, most importantly, the Skeletal team, thank you for being part of the journey so far.

Here’s to year seven.
